Two Conferences/Summits that You Should Check Out!

May 30, 2008

If you’re interested in media justice or addressing sexuality issues from a spiritual/religious perspective within communities of color (or both!), here are two conferences that you should check out this summer:

1) The 10th Allied Media Conference is coming up in less than three weeks (June 20-22) and there’s still time to register!

The 10th annual Allied Media Conference:
“Our Evolution Beyond Survival: Media Strategies for the Next 10 Years”
June 20-22, 2008 • Detroit, MI
www.alliedmediaconference.org

The Allied Media Conference cultivates media strategies for a more just and creative world. It is the primary point of intersection in the U.S. for alternative media makers and committed social justice activists. In June, we will come together on the campus of Wayne State University to share tools and tactics for transforming our communities through media-based organizing.

The 10th AMC is a milestone for the media movement. Over the last ten years, we’ve broken silence and built movements. We’ve become the media and created our own communications tools. Now we want to use this gathering to project ourselves another ten years into the future.

Here’s the link to the registration page and here’s the link to their current program.

2)The Black Church Initiative of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice will host their annual summit on sexuality in July.

The National Black Religious Summit 12 on Sexuality: The Dawn of a New Day
July 9-11, 2008
at the Howard University School of Divinity
1400 Shepherd Street, NE, Washington, DC 20017

The twelfth annual National Black Religious Summit on Sexuality will be held July 9-11, 2008 at the Howard University School of Divinity. This year’s theme is “The Dawn of a New Day, ” which is so appropriate during an election year when we have heard so much about change from the political parties. In the National Black Church Initiative, all that we have done throughout the past twelve years has prepared us to make major changes within our churches relating to issues of sexuality.

They will have both an adult track and a teen leadership sessions. Here’s the link to their registration page and here’s the link to this year’s program.
